Allen's blueberry lands dot the Maine coast from Brunswick to Machias, a healthy spread that protects our supply from localized frost or drought. Of the total acreage, we own half. So we make sure the growing's done right: Respect for nature. Enlightened husbandry. Spectacular fruit.
Wild blueberries grow on low, wirey bushes. Pruning traditionally by fire, more recently by mower to preserve the soil's organic pad encourages fruit. Harvested during late July and August, the crop is immediately cleaned and frozen for peak quality and flavor.
